The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu LGA.
Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the attackers scaled the school’s fence around 5am and, armed with sophisticated weapons, shot sporadically before taking the students away. He added that police tactical units engaged the gunmen in a shootout but the bandits had already moved the victims from their hostel.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, disclosed that Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida had been sent to assess the situation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.
A resident, Aliyu Yakubu, said the school principal, Makuku, was shot while attempting to shield students during the attack. “It’s a great loss for the community and the school,” he said.
Maga community has suffered repeated attacks in recent weeks.
