Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will have enough achievements to present to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio said the Tinubu administration inherited a difficult economic situation in 2023, claiming that 27 states were then unable to pay workers’ salaries and pensions. He argued that the situation has improved under the current administration’s economic reforms.
He made the remarks on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Dandutse Mohammed.
According to Akpabio, the administration has recorded progress in areas including the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy. He predicted that Nigerians would judge the government’s performance at the polls in 2027 and re-elect Tinubu for a second term.
The Senate President also defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly, saying the Senate had passed legislation aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians. He maintained that the legislature would continue working with the executive to deliver more for citizens.
Akpabio further urged lawmakers who may not return to the 11th Senate to remain committed to the APC and Tinubu’s administration, assuring them that their loyalty and contributions would be recognised.
Earlier, Senator Mohammed said the committee’s visit was part of its constitutional oversight responsibilities. He highlighted the roles of TETFund and NELFund in supporting education and said the committee was in Akwa Ibom to inspect TETFund-funded infrastructure and sensitise stakeholders.
