The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, has resigned from office.
The development was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
The resignation comes after the Kano State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against him. Earlier in the week, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano declined his application to halt the process.
According to the statement, the decision to step down was taken in the overall interest of the people and to ensure stability in governance. It noted that recent circumstances had limited the deputy governor’s ability to fully discharge the responsibilities of his office, making it necessary for the position to function without constraints.
The movement clarified that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations raised against him by the state assembly. It maintained that Abdussalam remains confident in his record, describing his time in office as a reflection of integrity and commitment to public service.

The move was also described as an act of statesmanship aimed at easing political tension and preserving governance and development in the state.
Following his resignation, Abdussalam is expected to focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly as preparations begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Supporters and residents of Kano State were urged to remain calm and law-abiding, with assurances that further details would be communicated in due course.
