Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, one of Nigeria’s most venerated Islamic voices, has returned to his Lord at 98.
He passed in the quiet hours of Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi. A family member, Malam Ahmed Mohammed, confirmed the loss, noting that the scholar had received visitors late into Wednesday night before being taken to the hospital.
His funeral prayer is scheduled for Friday, November 28, in Bauchi, according to Islamic rites.
Holder of the national honour OFR and supreme leader of the Tijjaniya order in Nigeria, Usman-Bauchi spent nearly a century shaping minds and mending divisions. Born in 1927 in Gombe, he devoted his life to Islamic scholarship, peacebuilding and the quiet labour of unifying communities. His teachings on moral discipline and tolerance travelled far beyond the country’s borders, gathering a vast and devoted following.
For decades, he mentored young scholars, advanced Islamic education and stood as a steady pillar of spiritual guidance.
