Ogun State recorded 502 cases of gender-based violence between January and November 2025, Commissioner for Women Affairs Adijat Adeleye said on Tuesday. Only two convictions have been secured, while 28 cases remain in court.
Adeleye, who spoke in Abeokuta after an advocacy walk led by First Lady Bamidele Abiodun to mark the end of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, described the figures as alarming.
She noted a rise in digital abuse, including cyberbullying and online harassment, and warned that many victims still do not report cases due to fear and stigma.
The Commissioner highlighted ongoing state interventions and called for special GBV courts, stronger survivor support systems, and tougher penalties for offenders.
Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele also urged stricter punishment for sexual crimes.
