EFCC Arrests Three in Maiduguri Over Viral ₦500 Note Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals in Maiduguri, Borno State, over alleged mutilation of the Naira.

The suspects — Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad and Bashir Musa — were apprehended after a viral video showed them using a ₦500 note to clean mucus from their noses.

In a statement on Thursday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the video prompted investigations that led to their arrest within the Maiduguri metropolis. He added that the trio is currently in custody at the Commission’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The arrests come amid intensified EFCC enforcement against Naira abuse, following recent cases including the detention of Kannywood actor Saminu Inuwa over alleged currency mutilation.
