2026: Segun Oni joins APC, boosts Oyebanji’s re-election push

Former Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oni registered as a member of the ruling party on Sunday at his Ifaki-Ekiti country home, barely 24 hours after Governor Biodun Oyebanji revalidated his APC membership and urged party leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation.

Oni governed Ekiti State between 2007 and 2010 on the platform of the PDP and later contested the 2022 governorship election as the SDP candidate, finishing second behind Oyebanji.

Reacting to the defection, the APC e-registration coordinator in Ekiti State, Gold Adesola Adedayo, described the move as a major boost to the party’s electronic registration drive and a significant addition to its grassroots strength.

Adedayo, who is also the Commissioner for Youth Development, said Oni’s entry into APC would strengthen the party’s chances ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general polls, urging party members to sustain mobilisation efforts across the state.
