Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed allegations linking his administration to terrorism financing, describing the move by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as politically motivated.
Speaking on Wednesday in Bauchi, the governor said he was concerned that his name was mentioned in court documents despite his constitutional immunity. He argued that the allegations were aimed at intimidating him for refusing to defect to the ruling party.
The EFCC had arraigned the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, alongside three others before a Federal High Court in Abuja on charges bordering on conspiracy, money laundering, and terrorism financing.
Mohammed said the development was an attempt to criminalize him as a leading opposition figure.
“I will not defect. I refuse to join their party,” he said, adding that state institutions were being weaponised against him.
The governor also accused the federal government of neglecting Bauchi State while exerting pressure on his administration, insisting that his government had continued to deliver in healthcare, education, and infrastructure despite limited resources.
He warned against political intimidation but reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and cooperation with the federal government in the national interest.
