The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, says he is better prepared than other aspirants to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking during an interactive X Space engagement, Obi said his experience in building and managing a business from scratch sets him apart from other contenders, including the incumbent president. He stressed that fixing the economy is key to resolving the nation’s security challenges, describing both as closely linked.
“I know how to manage finance and grow the economy,” Obi said, adding that his administration would prioritise small businesses and manufacturers as key drivers of growth.

Obi dismissed speculation that he plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition as a vice-presidential candidate, declaring, “I will be on the ballot in 2027.”
While reaffirming his support for the ADC coalition, he urged his supporters to avoid violence and personal attacks, even when provoked, and to engage opponents with facts and healthy debate.
