The Christian Association of Nigeria says it has not been officially informed of the reported release of 100 abducted pupils from Agwara, Niger State, though it described the development as a potential answer to prayers.
Niger State CAN chairman, Bishop Bulus Yohanne, said in a statement on Sunday that the church was hopeful but awaiting confirmation. Bandits had attacked St. Mary Private Catholic Schools in Agwara on November 21, abducting 303 pupils, students, and staff, with 50 escaping days later.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, recently visited the school, assuring parents that the children were safe and would return soon.
Reactions have begun to trail reports by Channels Television that the Federal Government secured the release of 100 pupils. Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and retired Major General John Enenche praised the efforts of security agencies, calling the news encouraging.
Across Niger State, Christians concluded a three-day fasting and prayer programme on Sunday, seeking the safe return of the remaining 265 captives, with church leaders urging unity, faith, and persistent prayer.
