U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Michael Waltz, issued a stark warning on the worsening persecution of Christians in Nigeria during a high-profile UN event hosted by the United States Mission.
Waltz described the targeted killings and violence as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos,” noting mounting evidence of attacks in which clergy are assassinated, families displaced and entire congregations destroyed.
“An entire faith is being erased one bullet at a time, one torched Bible at a time,” he said.
The event, aimed at spotlighting religious violence in Nigeria, also featured rapper Nicki Minaj, who voiced support for victims of persecution. While her remarks drew attention, the central message of the forum echoed Waltz’s warning about the urgent need for global action.
Waltz’s comments come amid rising international concern, heightened by former President Donald Trump’s recent threats to halt U.S. aid and consider military intervention if attacks persist.
In response, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu defended his government’s efforts to work with Christian and Muslim leaders to address nationwide security challenges, insisting Nigeria remains committed to religious freedom.
