Tragedy as Tanker explosion kills 40 persons in Niger
 

Explosion has killed no fewer than 48 people in an auto crash involving a Fuel Truck and Lorry in Niger State.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, disclosed this, stating that the accident happened in the early hours of Sunday.

The Director-general of the agency, Abdullahi Baba-arah, stated that the fuel tanker collided with a lorry carrying passengers and cattle, adding that the collision resulted in an explosion which engulfed both vehicles.

He further explained that response teams were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation.

According to him, a number of other vehicles were also caught up in the explosion and were burnt including some of the cattle.

Reacting to the incident, Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, stated that it was an unfortunate one and sympathized with the families who lost their loved ones.

He also noted that a mass burial will be carried out for the victims.
