Student Loan: Nigerian government receives 30,000 qualified applications

…sets  date for  second stage

Just seven days following the portal’s introduction on May 24, 2024, the Nigerian government reports that roughly 30,000 students have successfully applied for its loan programme.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Akintunde Sawyerr, declared that the programme will begin accepting applications for state higher education institutions on June 25, 2024. The initiative’s goals are to give students financial support and practical skills in a range of technical and vocational fields.

He stated “Beyond just providing money, NELFUND understands how critical it is to provide our young people employable, marketable skills. “We will begin a comprehensive skills acquisition programme in six months, offering training in a range of vocational and technical fields.”The goal of this programme is to instill entrepreneurship and innovation in our youth while preparing them to meet the needs of the contemporary labour market.

Sixty thousand people have signed up on the website. Although about 30,000 loan applications have been submitted successfully, this does not imply that the 30,000 applications have been granted. No one has received the loan at this point. It’s time to assess now. He stated, “We remain dedicated to meeting this pressing demand, and the tremendous response is a testament to the critical need for financial assistance among our student population.” Remember that in order to offer financial aid to Nigerian students, President Bola Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Act, 2023 into law.
