Stop protecting corrupt people – EFCC tasks Religious Leaders

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has called on religious leaders across the country to desist from protecting corrupt individuals.

Speaking with journalists, the EFCC chairman, Olukoyede Olanipekun recalled the recent achievements of the agency where millions of naira was recovered from a religious organization without a genuine source of income.

He slammed religious leaders who live  on the income of worshippers, stressing that they need to follow suit if they want to hold public officers accountable.

According to him, “Let us use our podium not only to preach but to demonstrate.‬ I remember how we recovered millions from a religious organization. Pastors live on the income of the worshippers, ministry, mosque , you don’t have a source of income of your own, you can’t explain the source of your wealth.‬

‪”If you are not accountable as a religious leader, you don’t expect a public office holder to be.‬

‪”We preach this thing on the altar but under our nose, the same thing happens but we cover it up because it’s our own”.
