President Tinubu Arrives in Brazil for G20 Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the G20 Heads of State and Government Summit. The summit, themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will run from today through tomorrow, focusing on sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, as well as global governance reform.

Tinubu landed in Brazil early Monday at approximately 3 AM Nigerian time and was welcomed by Ambassador Breno Costa from Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations. He is accompanied by key ministers including Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), and Hannatu Musawa (Art, Tourism, Culture and Creativity).

Accompanying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his trip to Brazil is Amb. Mohammed Mohammed, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency. During the G20 summit, Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.

The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, runs from today through tomorrow and focuses on sustainable development. Tinubu’s attendance underscores the inclusion of representatives from the African Union and the European Union, following an invitation extended by Ambassador Carlos Areias on August 29. The summit will feature participation from 19 member countries, including major economies like the US, China, and Germany.

Others are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, and the UK.
