Police Arrest Suspected Motorcycle Snatcher In Ekiti


The Oye Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with some residents of Trinity Hostel Area, along Egbe Road, Oye-Ekiti, has arrested a suspected notorious motorcycle snatcher.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by DSP Sunday Abutu, Ekiti state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO.

The statement reads;

“The Oye Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with some residents of Trinity Hostel Area, along Egbe Road, Oye-Ekiti, arrested a notorious motorcycle snatcher, one BERNARD SHADRACH, who attempted to snatch motorcycle from a commercial motorcycle rider. 

Investigation revealed that the suspect and his fleeing gang member specialize in snatching motorcycles from innocent motorcyclists within Oye-Ekiti but ran out of luck on 25/04/2024 at about 21:40hrs when they disguised as passengers going to Trinity Hostel along Egbe Road, Oye-Ekiti, boarded the motorcycle and at a point, while on their way, forcefully asked the rider to stop which he obliged. The suspects then attacked the motorcyclist with dry grounded pepper, hammer and attempted to snatch his motorcycle. 

The rider fortunately subdued them with the assistance of passers-by, arrested one while the other escaped.  Effort is ongoing to arrested the fleeing gang member. 

In the course of investigation, two commercial motorcycle riders who earlier reported a case of their motorcycles came and identified the arrested suspect as one of the two-man gang that snatched their motorcycles on 02/04/2024 and 22/04/2024 respectively. 

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime and said that the fleeing suspect is his leader in the unlawful business of snatching of motorcycles. He further stated that they both came from Benin, Edo State, and started the unlawful business in November 2023.

While the Command will continue its seriously manhunt on criminal elements in the State, members of the public are implored to be wary of strange faces around their environs, be security conscious, proactive and promptly report to the Police any suspicious person or group of persons found in their neighborhood for necessary action that will ensure a safe and better society.” The statement added.
