Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, laid the foundation for the much-anticipated Indoor Sports Complex-Ekiti’s first-ever indoor sports complex, marking a significant step in the State’s commitment to promoting sports and youth development.
Technical Advisor on Sports, Dr Olusola Osetoba, disclosed that the new complex will cater to no fewer than 16 sports, including gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, handball, squash, badminton, table tennis, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting, taekwondo, judo, karate, scrabble, chess, and more.
The multi-sport facility which is expected to be completed within twelve months, will not only give Ekiti sportsmen and women a world-class platform to showcase their talents but also put the state in a prime position to host regional, national, continental, and global competitions.
The facility will also serve as a beacon to honour the legacy of Ekiti-born stars like Olympic silver medalist, Oluyemi Kayode; African 100 meters champions, Olusoji Fasuba and Damola Osayomi; as well as Super Eagles legends Ajibade Babalade and Seyi Olofinjana.
