One dead, groom hospitalised as bride allegedly poisons food in Jigawa

A wedding celebration in Jigawa State took a tragic turn when a bride allegedly poisoned the food served at her reception.

The incident, which occurred in Jahun Local Government Area, left the groom in critical condition and claimed the life of one guest.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to PUNCH online suggested that the bride’s actions might have been motivated by a personal vendetta.

Confirming the incident on Friday, Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer Shi’isu Adam, stated, “We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill.”

Adam further revealed that two suspects: the bride and another woman have been arrested and are currently in police custody. “Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident that occurred during a wedding ceremony in the state,” he said.

The suspects are being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department as the police work to uncover the full details of the incident.

“We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served,” Adam assured.

The police spokesperson also disclosed that all the guests who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from the hospital, except for one individual who tragically passed away.

“The command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and we will provide more details as soon as possible,” Adam stated. “For now, we can confirm that the incident occurred, and we are working tirelessly to unravel the facts. We urge the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served.”

Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of the deceased, the groom, or other affected individuals.
