NSCDC arrest Woman for dumping newborn in drainage

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command has arrested a woman identified as Barkisu Sulaiman for allegedly throwing her newborn into drainage in Karaworo-Lokoja.

She was arrested following a tip from a friend in Kabawa, Lokoja.

According to reports, her friend rushed to an elderly man in Karaworo-Lokoja and confessed to him the crime committed by her friend (Barkisu).

She told the elderly man that her friend (Barkisu) had once mentioned that she was carrying a seven-month pregnancy for one of her ailing husband’s servants residing in Adankolo-Lokoja.

She also revealed that the baby’s father who is reportedly on the run, had denied responsibility for the pregnancy and advised her to terminate it.

Following this, residents took action against Barkisu and arrested her.

She reportedly admitted to abandoning her newborn in a gutter due to feelings of guilt over infidelity, as her husband was ill at the time.

The State Corps Commandant, Paul Igweibuke, confirmed her arrest, saying “She is in our custody, and an investigation is in progress.”
