The Inspection General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has approved the appointment of AIG Yetunde Longe as the first female Force Secretary for the Nigerian Police Force
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated in a statement on Wednesday that the appointment is in line with the goal of encouraging gender equality and inclusivity within the Police Force.
Adejobi emphasised that Longe, who has shown remarkable commitment and competence throughout her career, adds a lot of knowledge and expertise to her new role.
Her expertise in crime management and investigation has been greatly enhanced by her Bachelor’s degree in forensic toxicology. Her involvement in advanced courses like the Protection of Civilians course in Italy and the Advanced Detective and Intermediate Command courses at Police Staff College Jos has further enhanced her professional development, according to Adejobi.
AIG Longe has held various key positions since her appointment as a Cadet ASP in 1990. She has held Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Commissioner of Police for Port Authority Police, and Assistant Inspector General of Police at Force Headquarters.
Inspector-General Egbetokun stressed that the overall growth and efficiency of the police force depend on the participation of women in important posts.
“As this administration is poised to promote gender equality and empower female officers to attain leadership positions within the Force, the Inspector General of Police reiterates that gender sensitivity in police appointments and operations remains a non-negotiable principle,” Adejobi stated.
