NEDC Sounds Alarm Over Deteriorating Borno-Adamawa Border Bridge

On the bridge that connects Borno and Adamawa states near their border, in the Madagali Local Government, the North East Development Commission has declared an emergency.

When Mohammed Goni Alkali, the Managing Director of NEDC, visited the area on Friday as part of his inspection tour of projects in Adamawa State, he expressed grave concern and pointed out that the commission needed to move quickly to prevent the two states from becoming cut off due to the collapsed bridge.

The commission’s primary duty, according to him, is to offer services that directly impact the lives of those living in the Northeast.

Alkali inspected the fallen bridge with the Triacta Construction Company project manager, and Mr. Wajih gave the manager instructions to assess the structure right away so the Commission could move quickly.

After visiting roughly twenty active projects throughout the state, the NEDC issued a challenge to the contractors, asking them to take their work seriously and make sure that the contracts are carried out within the stipulated time limit.

He encouraged some of the contractors to get on with their work so they could meet the commission deadline, while expressing satisfaction with some of them.
He committed to completing a massive new water project at Adamawa State University that will benefit the institution as well as the surrounding communities, on top of the existing construction on the university’s new campus.

Alkali gave the residents of the Northeast region assurances that the Commission will keep creating initiatives that would improve their quality of life.
