The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is set to dispatch response teams to Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states amid rising suspected and confirmed cholera cases.
This announcement follows reports of 27 deaths from suspected outbreaks in Rivers and Bayelsa, with 18 fatalities occurring in Nembe-Ogbolomabiri, Bayelsa.
The outbreaks began on December 10, 2024. The Rivers State Government confirmed nine deaths across two local government areas, while Akwa Ibom reported cases in the fishing community of Emeroke.
NCDC officials are working with state authorities to control the situation and advocate for preventive measures.
