Workers from Lagos State-owned broadcast stations protested on Monday, demanding payment of the new minimum wage and inclusion in the state’s Oracle payment system.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mrs. Funmi Sessi emphasized that these workers are entitled to the wage as state employees.
The protest was organized by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union from Lagos State media organizations. They demonstrated against the non-payment of the new minimum wage and their exclusion from the state’s Oracle payment system.
Union leaders warned of potential strikes at Lagos Television, Radio Lagos/Eko FM, and Traffic Radio if their demands are not met.
Sessi, while speaking to the workers, stated: “You are employees of the state government, as your employment letters indicate, and you are entitled to the new minimum wage mandated by the Federal Government of Nigeria. You should not receive less.”
She also added “Mr governor, we are not targeting your administration, but these workers have come out to say that their management has not done the needful.
“This government is doing well. It is a whole new government and administration that is maintaining a very cordial relationship with workers.
“However, it will not be good for some workers in the state not to enjoy the benefits that others are enjoying.
“This is why we are out and calling on our good governor; these workers are demanding and asking that they should be included in the state’s Oracle payment system.”
They carried placards highlighting their grievances, calling for fair treatment and integration into the Oracle database for seamless salary payments.
