LABOUR UNION DECLARES NATIONWIDE STRIKE FROM MONDAY

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared the commencement of an indefinite nationwide strike in protest of the unsatisfactory national minimum wage negotiations and the government’s unwillingness to undo the increase in the price for electricity.

The Federal Government’s inability to finalise and enact a new National Minimum Wage Act and undo the vexatious raise in the power tariff to N65/kwh that was announced on Friday, May 31, in Abuja, has left them deeply concerned and disappointed.

Additionally, they claimed that the absence of the governor and ministers, except for the state minister of labour and employment who also serves as a conciliator, indicated the meeting’s lack of seriousness and evident contempt demonstrating the government’s abandonment of the conference.

With the government making no effort or commitment to fulfil this need, In support of this cause, the NLC and TUC urge all of their affiliates to be prepared to take all necessary actions to guarantee that their rights are upheld and that their opinions are heard. Also regretting whatever inconveniences this may cause Nigerians.
