The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a ban on all forms of sports betting within the state.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen, during a press briefing where he discussed Hisbah’s renewed efforts to combat immorality.
Dr. Aminuddeen revealed that the board has re-launched its ‘operation flush out immorality,’ and that Hisbah operatives would soon begin cracking down on individuals and groups violating social order in the state.
As part of its efforts to restore discipline, the Hisbah board will also arrest landlords who rent out properties to unidentified individuals, following an increase in cases where residential houses are being used as lodges and motels in Kano.
Additionally, the board has introduced new regulations on courtship, prohibiting prospective couples from sitting in tinted vehicles, particularly at night.
While reiterating that street begging is illegal, Dr. Aminuddeen stated that female beggars found outdoors late at night would be arrested.
Expressing concern over the rising rate of prostitution among young girls, he also warned that any woman found in a tricycle after 10 p.m. would be apprehended.
He cautioned the public against breaking these rules, noting that violations would result in strict penalties.
He also urged parents to closely monitor their children, especially girls, to prevent them from engaging in activities that could lead to punishment.
