JUST IN: Steer Clear of LG Funds, S’Court Orders Governors…Nullifies JAAC, Says it’s Unconstitutional

The Supreme Court has ordered all the 36 state governors in the country to steer clear of funds and activities of local government areas in their respective States.

This was just as the apex court granted autonomy to the 774 local governments across the country.

In a judgement delivered on Thursday morning, the apex court stated that the Joint Account Allocation Committee platform is illegal and should be disbanded henceforth.

In its lead judgement read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court observed that the refusal of state governments on financial autonomy for local governments has gone on for over two decades.
