JUST IN- RUSSIA’S STRONGEST OPPOSITION LEADER DIES IN PRISON

Russia’s most significant opposition leader and critic to President Putin, Alexei Navalny is reportedly dead. The 47 year old was said to have died in Arctic Circle Jail

According to the Russian prison service, he collapsed and died on Friday, February 16 after a walk at the ‘Polar Wolf’ Arctic penal colony where he was serving a three decade jail term.

The prison reports that Navalny had felt “unwell” after a walk on friday.

“He had almost lost consciousness” the statement reads; adding that an emergency medical team had immediately been called to try to resuscitate him but to no avail.

He was later declared dead by the emergency doctors but the cause of death was yet to be confirmed

Speaking in Munich just hours after the news broke, his wife Yulia Navalny told a crowd that President Putin and his regime should be held responsible for what is happening to Russia.

Holding back her tears, she called on the international community to come together and fight against the “horrific regime” in Russia.
