The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), originally scheduled for Monday, has been postponed.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the development, stating that the meeting, which was announced by the Minister of Education on Friday, will no longer take place as planned. While no reason was provided for the postponement, the meeting is now expected to be held on Wednesday, August 28.
This comes after ASUU threatened to embark on a nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s failure to implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement, following a national executive council meeting at the University of Ibadan on August 19, 2024.
ASUU’s demands encompass enhancements in staff welfare, increased university funding, and a halt to the proliferation of new universities across the country.
