Troops from the Joint Task Force South-East, known as “Operation UDO KA,” have conducted clearance operations against camps associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), resulting in the arrest of two suspected terrorists.
Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, the task force spokesman, announced the operations on Sunday in Enugu.
On December 5, 2024, troops targeted an IPOB/ESN camp in Uhuala-Aku, Imo State, acting on credible intelligence. Upon arrival, they encountered members of the group, who fled into nearby forests due to the troops’ superior firepower.
He said, “The combined force, acting on credible intelligence, on arrival at the terrorist’s camp came in contact with the irredentists who were forced to abandon their camp in disarray, escaping into the adjoining forest due to troops’ superior fire power.
“Items recovered included: one G3 rifle, two-pump action rifles, three Dane guns, one locally-fabricated pistol, one MG belt, two AK 47 rifle magazines, 12 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and five rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
“Other items are: a sack containing a human skull, one Toyota Hilux Vehicle, six radio chargers, 20 car keys and one Boafeng radio.
“Troops also destroyed 26 makeshift accommodations in the camp,” he said.
In a separate operation, troops arrested two suspects in Okposi community, Ebonyi State, seizing locally fabricated pistols and live ammunition. Additionally, a raid at an IPOB/ESN camp in Nsukka, Enugu State, resulted in the recovery of various weapons and military gear.
Maj. Gen. Hassan Dada, Force Commander of Operation UDO KA, urged citizens to embrace dialogue as a tool of maintaining peace and stability in the South-East
