Gov Oyebanji flags-off Hypertension and diabetes screening in Ekiti


…targets 200,000 people as project cuts across 16 LGAs

The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on Monday flagged off free screening exercise on hypertension and diabetes for Ekiti state residents.

The event which offered free blood pressure and blood sugar test was flagged off by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji who was represented by the Deputy Gov, Mrs Christianah Monisade Afuye.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Mrs Christianah Monisade Afuye said the project was created to raise awareness on the increasing prevalence of non communicable diseases particularly hypertension and diabetes.

The project would ensure free diabetes and hypertension screening for 200,000 people in Ekiti state, adding that pregnant women will receive free antenatal care services, free immunization services for children under the age of five years and free malaria treatment for all residents in Ekiti state.

“We hope to conduct free screening for about 200,000 people in Ekiti State for hypertension and diabetes within the week long campaign in 161 screening centres across the state from Monday 28″ October to Sunday 3rd November 2024 with a focus on adult from age 18 years.”

The Deputy Governor Mrs Christianah Monisade Afuye alongside other political dignitaries had their blood pressure checked immediately after the event.

The colorful event had members of the public, political dignitaries, various stakeholders in the health sector in attendance.
