A group of leading French newspapers, including Le Figaro, Les Echos, Le Parisien, and Le Monde, have filed a lawsuit against X, formerly known as Twitter. The publishers allege that the social media platform has been using their content without proper compensation, violating neighboring rights.
The legal action, which also involves AFP, follows failed attempts to negotiate with X. The newspapers seek to enforce their right to be paid for the republication of their news content on the platform.
A Paris court has ordered X to provide financial data to media companies within two months. The ruling, handed down on May 24, aims to assess the revenue X generates from using their content.
The social media site “has not yet complied” with this decision, “demonstrating its continued intent to avoid its legal obligations”, the newspapers said, justifying their latest suit.
