…says activity not a strategy for political endorsements
Bimbo Daramola, a former lawmaker representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency, has announced his plans to launch a monthly health and fitness activity tagged “The BAOWalk” in a bid to cut down residents’ expenses on medical treatments.
The ex-lawmaker stated this while addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
Daramola said the monthly activity will serve a motion to compliment the giant strides of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in health sector.
The congressman explained that the purpose of the walk is to also deepen the need for Ekiti residents to adopt other means of staying healthy rather than consulting hospitals frequently for treatment.
Daramola noted that the walk will also remove bottlenecks and lessen the burden on the government expenses on residents’ treatment.
He emphasised that the walk will be launched in Ikole Local Government Area of the State by February with no fewer than 300 participants.
The former lawmaker added that the walk will be rotated among all the 16 local governments in the state in each month and will also go beyond the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.
He said, “The purpose of BAOWALK is to deepen and institutionalise need for adoption of one of the important ways to stay healthy. It’s not all medication that comes in form of tablets and capsules or injection, when human beings moderately incorporate some other life promoting activities, it helps people to stay healthier and live better life.
“Nobody is triggering me to do this and nobody can do that, I am reacting and responding to my conscience which I have always done.
“The first one will be done in February in Ikole-Ekiti and the date will be communicated soon
“I’m making provision for 300 people, We will have federal road safety road, police to ensure that it’s not being hijacked by hoodlums and be misconstrued as a political activity
“This is just to cut down the expenses that people spend on medical treatment for diseases such as: Diabetes, high blood pressure, among others.
“It’s a huge bill on government’s budget when people fall sick easily; it will ease the bottlenecks on the government too and will greatly help the people”.
When asked whether the walk is a comeback strategy into politics, Daramola said, “Sick people don’t play politics, we need good health to play politics, good health does not know politics, anybody regardless of their party can join.
“This is not a come back strategy, I have been out of government for 10 years and I have not taken anything from APC. This is my hood and I have not stopped helping people for those 10 years”.
