The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has authorized the immediate payment of N70,000 as the new minimum wage for all administrative staff.
This decision was announced in a statement from Anthony Odeh, Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, on Tuesday.
The new wage follows President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the Minimum Wage Bill into law in May 2024.
According to the statement, Wike approved the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage on Monday. This decision aims to improve the conditions of workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
Additionally, Acting Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, announced that three months’ salary arrears will also be paid starting November 2024.
She said, “This gesture will further spur the entire administration staff to support the minister in continuing to deliver on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The statement added that the move was part of the minister’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of the staff.
