The Ekiti State Government has urged all residents in the state to patronize only registered riders and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
The state government stated this in Ado-Ekiti during the launching of Reflective Jackets for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators in the state.
The state government also made wearing of reflective jacket bearing Personal Identification Number (PIN) compulsory for all Okada and Tricycle Operators in the state.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Transportation, Kehinde Ajobiewe said the move was part of ongoing efforts to regulate the subsector and enhance security of commuters and people of the State.
Ajobiewe emphasized that the PIN, which will be visibly displayed on the reflective jackets of registered riders would serve as a crucial database for the state government.
According to him ,the initiative is designed to monitor and track the activities of Okada riders and Tricycle operators ensuring proper identification and reducing criminal activities associated with unregistered operators.
The Commissioner added that the Government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property of the people of the state, noting that the introduction of the PIN system linked to a database containing the fingerprints and other unique biometric features of the bearer will help in identifying genuine operators while discouraging the use of motorcycles for criminal activities.
He urged all Okada riders and Tricycle operators in the state to comply with the directive and ensure proper registration to avoid sanctions.
Ajobiewe assured that the State Ministry of Transportation will continue to work closely with security agencies to enforce compliance and maintain order within the sector.
