EKSG Pledges Support For Grassroot Development

…as JDPI, Ekiti State House of Assembly holds Special Plenary Session on Citizens Engagement

The Executive and Legislative arms in Ekiti State have promised to ensure they review the people’s need in order to boost grassroot development.

Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Steven Aribasoye made this known while speaking during a special Citizens Engagement held at the Assembly Complex in Ado Ekiti.

This development surfaced after a non governmental body, the Justice Development and Peace Initiative, JDPI gave the Ekiti State House of Assembly feedback from the people at various communities after engaging in an independent community desires assessment.

While commending the Justice Development and Peace Initiative JDPI, for their efforts towards tabling the citizens request to the government, the speaker also revealed that the house had passed a law to check activities of land grabbers in the State, and soonest there would be laws to address such cases.

Findings by the independent group reflected the needs of people across the State in various areas including appointing more youths into political offices, women skill acquisition, community electricity, agricultural sector amongst other demands.

The research shows that most of the youths are demanding for political appointment and this request has generated worries in the minds of the lawmakers and other stakeholders.

The Director of Justice Development and Peace Initiative, Rev Father Emmanuel Akingbade commended the Ekiti State House of Assembly for their availability to listen to the needs of the people of the State.

“We observed there is a need to bring governance to grassroot, and in order to do that we went by sampling people’s opinions on what they would want the government to do for them,and it is their needs that we come to present on the floor of house today.

We are satisfied with the validation of our report by the greater percentage of the stakeholders gathered in the house of assembly this day”.

“The report highlights the priorities of the people in the different major areas. For some communities, their priorities are roads, water, electricity. Some communities wants government to focus on Agriculture, skill aquisition for women, for the youths most of them wants political appointments”.

“We have presented our reports and we are happy with the way the house and the people took the report”. He added.

Mary Oso, DG Community communication commended JDPI for doing a thorough job , and promised to look deeply at the findings so as adjust its activities to satisfy the priority of the people of Ekiti state.
