Ekiti Speaker, RT Hon, Aribasoye Summons Emergency Assembly Plenary Following The Gruesome Killing Of Two Traditional Rulers In The State

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye has expressed shock at the killing of two monarchs and reported abduction of some school children within the state.

The monarch of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin were killed in an ambush by armed men around Oke Ako in Ikole local government area while returning from a meeting.

The third traditional ruler, the Alara of Ara –Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba escaped.

Else where in Emure local government an unspecified number of pupils of a
missionary nursery and primary school were also reportedly abducted.

Describing the Monday incidents as cruel and worrisome, Rt. Hon. Aribasoye said it was saddening that some agents of darkness are keen on endangering the peaceful status of Ekiti state and creating undue fear and tension.

In a statement by his media adviser, Babajide Agbeyo, the speaker noted that although Ikole local government axis had been a flashpoint of sort when kidnapping and herders invasion was rife in the state, the menace seemed to have subsided significantly until this fresh dastardly act of amazing dimension.

” This twin ugly incident is a siege. This looks to me a plot to unsettle this peaceful state. This will not stand , God will intervene and the law will prevail, this I’m sure of” Aribasoye asserted.

He sympathized with the affected towns where monarchs were killed and parents of the abducted pupils.

The speaker described the murder of the monarchs as painful adding that the monarch of Esun Ekiti which is part of his constituency was very close to him.

Aribasoye lamented the mindless killing of an intelligent monarch like Onimojo who, though from Oye local government, was always around to offer his advice on issues.

Meanwhile the Speaker has called for an emergency plenary of the house of assembly to hold on Wednesday to address the current issue and deliberate on modalities ensure justice prevails.

Rt. Hon. Aribasoye had about three months ago visited the police commissioner in the state and top on the list of issues discussed was security of citizens.
