
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council has called for the immediate release of its member, Yemi Agbeleoba, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged sexual scandal involving the Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Fasina.
Agbeleoba, who is the General Manager of Our People’s FM Radio, Ado-Ekiti, was accused of breaching the peace of the University through a WhatsApp group, which according to the Union, was an attempt to cover up the sexual case of the Vice Chancellor.

Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the chairman of the Union, Kayode Babatuyi described the arrest as a violation and an infringement on the constitutional rights of the victim.
He noted that the Union has been protecting the image of the University but would not hesitate to take drastic actions against any institution or individual attempting to harass and victimize members of the council.
The Council Chairman called on the intervention of the state government in making sure that management of the University and DSS release the ace broadcaster with immediate effect.
Babatuyi urged DSS to follow up on the sexual scandal involving FUOYE’s VC and stop chasing shadow, adding that the Union would not also hesitate to black out every activities of the university.
His words, “The situation is connected to the current sexual saga involving the VC of FUOYE. We call on the management of FUOYE and DSS to release him wirh immediate effect.
“We totall condemn the arrest of Yemi Agbeleoba, it’s unnecessary and it’s an attempt to victimize and cover the alleged sexual scandal involving the Vice Chancellor.
“We called on the state government to act on this. We have been protecting the image of the university; it’s disheartening to see this over a frivolous matter.
“The current leadership of NUJ will not tolerate harassment and victimization of our member. Arresting him is unnecessary and we need to consider the interest of the family of Yemi Agbeleoba, the family has been put into trauma.
“The security agent need to follow up on the case on ground rather than chasing shadow. Yemi Agbeleoba should be released before the end of today”.
