An Enugu State High Court has sentenced Chiamaka ifezue to d*ath by hanging for the murder of a 27 year old Makeup artist Ijeoma Nneke.
The Court which was presided by Honorable Justice Kenneth Okpe on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 found the accused guilty of killing the victim by poisoning.
Ijeoma went missing after leaving home for a job on November 11, 2020. Then she was found dead and Mutilated around Maryland in Enugu on November 16, 2020.
Ifezue and her brother Chukwuemeka were arrested and arraigned before a court for murder. They were accused of forcing Nneka to drink a substance that caused her demise. The accused then dumped her body on Maryland axis of Enugu Metropolis and poured a chemical substances suspected to be acid on it.
However, Chukwuemeka was discharged folllowing a no-case submission pleaded by the defence counsel, Mr Chuma Oguejiofor. In discharging Chukwuemeka, the judge held that there was no evidence to show that he participated in the crime.
Delivering the final verdict on the case, Justice Okpe said the prosecution proved the case of murder beyond reasonable doubt. The court agreed with the submission of the prosecution led by Chinelo Chigbo from the department of Public Persecution that the accused was responsible for the death of the 27 year old Makeup artist.
The court subsequently found Ifezue guilty of Murder and sentenced her to death by hanging
