Court Halts FG Funds to Rivers State

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order halting the release of monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the injunction following a suit challenging the legality of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget before a four -member Rivers House of Assembly.

The court deemed the action a violation of constitutional provisions and an aberration that cannot be allowed to persist.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik also ruled that Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget constituted a gross violation of the 1999 Constitution. The court has instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria, Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank to halt any further disbursement of funds to the state government.

More details to follow.
