Controversial Singer Portable Arrives at Ogun State Police Command

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has arrived at the Ogun State Police Command in connection with an ongoing investigation over allegations of assault on several police officers

The spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed his arrival in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the singer reached the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 1:23 p.m.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the SCID at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025,” Odutola stated. “His presence is related to an ongoing investigation. The command assures the public that due process will be followed, and updates will be provided as necessary.”

The singer had surrendered himself at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, on Wednesday. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Portable voluntarily turned himself in before arrangements were made for the Ogun State Police Command to take custody of him.

“Portable just turned himself in at the SCID, Yaba. We have contacted the Ogun State Police Command to come and pick him up,” Hundeyin stated.

Portable has been under scrutiny for allegedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office. The officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were reportedly attacked while carrying out an enforcement exercise in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, Ota, Ogun State.

Following the alleged assault, nine of Portable’s associates were arrested and arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo on five charges, including felony, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The suspects, accused of wielding cutlasses and firearms, pleaded not guilty.

After Portable failed to respond to police invitations, the Ogun State Police Command declared him wanted. Addressing the situation in multiple videos on Tuesday, the singer claimed to be a “madman undergoing treatment” at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. He also appealed to Nigerians and the Ogun State Government for leniency following his declaration as a wanted person.

Odutola urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, reaffirming the command’s commitment to upholding justice and maintaining public order.
