Chelsea Manager Defends Enzo Fernandez After Controversial Racial Video In First Club Press Conference

Chelsea launched an internal club investigation after Enzo Fernandez recorded himself singing a believed-to-be racist chant against French players in the aftermath of Argentina’s Copa America victory

The Chelsea Boss have come out in defense of the Argentine during his first club press conference stating that Enzo Feenandez didn’t mean any harm and have also had the courage to come out and apologize to the public and his teammates

France defender and teammate Lesley Fofana posted in response to the viral video on social media: “Football in 2024: uninhibited racism.” Chelsea have since launched an internal investigation regarding the chant.

The Chelsea boss in his press conference also stated that he isn’t expecting any dressing room issues when Enzo Fernandez resumes and joins the team on Pre-season tour in the United States

“I don’t think there are any bad intentions behind it so starting from that point, for me it is quite easy. The player already did a statement apologising.

“The club did the same so there are not many things to add but the only thing I can say from my point of view that I can add that they are all young with good intentions. Good guy, good person, good human being. There was not any bad intention

“I don’t think Enzo would have any problem returning to the club to be honest. Probably it is the immediate reaction.”

Fernandez released an apology in the aftermath of the video. Taking to instagram the midfielder wrote:

“I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words”.
