The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye has died on Monday evening after attending a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC headquarters in Abuja.
According to reports, Ijalaye slumped before he finally gave up the ghost. He was an indigene of Ondo State, who was have participated actively during the meeting presided over by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu.
The meeting centered on the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as discussions on seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
After the meeting, Ijalaye returned to his hotel room where he slumped and died. His death occurred shortly after the meeting, leaving his colleagues and associates in shock.
Ijalaye was appointed as the Ogun State REC in March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State. He was in good spirit during the meeting and had participated actively in the discussions.
