Borno Bombing: Death Toll Climbs as Acting Governor Visits Grieving Families

At least two more victims of the Borno State bombings in Gwoza town have passed away while undergoing care at the Maiduguri State Specialist Hospital.

Alhaji Umar Kadafur, the state’s acting governor, said this to media on Sunday while on a visit to the hospital.

Governor Babagana Zulum is currently in Pakistan on a business trip alongside his Borno and Adamawa state counterparts, Mai Mala Buni and Umaru Fintiri.

According to Kadafur, of the 42 injured patients who were admitted to the hospital, 24 were still receiving treatment there and 16 had already been released.

The acting governor also declared that the state government had paid the victims’ medical bills and was making sure they received proper care, adding that the state government denounced the attacks on the populace and that the fight against terrorism and insurgency must go on despite the attack.

Kadafur also disclosed that the attackers exploited the people’s lack of vigilance after the state had generally achieved relative peace.

In order to prevent another incidence like this one, he further urged the public to be extra watchful and report any suspicious activity or people they see in their neighbourhood to security personnel.

Senator Ali Ndume, the Senate Chief Whip, Ahmadu Jaha, a member of the National Assembly who represents the Damboa, Gwoza, and Chibok Federal Constituencies, and other government representatives escorted Kadafur to the hospital.
