Bandits attacked a commercial vehicle on the Jibia-Katsina Road in Katsina State, on Sunday resulting in one death and four injuries.
An anonymous source reported that the assailants aimed to kidnap the passengers. Fortunately, military forces responded swiftly, rescuing the victims and transporting the injured and deceased to Jibia General Hospital.
He said, “This evening, bandits carried out attacks on Jibia-Katsina Road, particularly at Dan Arau village area, a few meters from Magama town in Jibia Local Government area of Katsina State and opened fire on a commercial vehicle carrying passengers from Jibia Market.
“During the attack, five passengers were shot. One died instantly, while the other four sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital.
“We laud the swift response by the joint Army operation that gave the bandits a hot chase, forced them to flee and abandon the kidnapped passengers.”
The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the recent attack.
He stated “14 victims were rescued. One died as a result of the attack. Investigation is ongoing,”
