China announced on Tuesday that it will impose new tariffs on U.S. agricultural imports starting next week in response to Washington’s recent tariff hike.
Beijing’s finance ministry stated that a 15% tariff will be added to chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, while a 10% tariff will apply to sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
The decision follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s order on Monday to raise tariffs on Chinese goods from 10% to 20%.
In response, Beijing described the U.S. move as unilateral and damaging to trade relations.
China’s commerce ministry also announced plans to file a lawsuit at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the additional tariffs.
