One Dead, Seven Arrested as Police Restore Traffic on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Police Command has reopened the Lagos-Badagry Expressway at the Otto-Ijanikin axis following a violent communal clash between youths in Ijanikin and Otto that left one person dead and seven suspects arrested.

In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said traffic was restored around 9:00 a.m. after the blockage was cleared.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a joint team of operatives and tactical squads to secure the area and reopen the highway.

A man identified as Akinyemi Omo Akin was shot during the clash and later died in hospital. Police dismissed claims that he was hit by a stray bullet from officers, stating preliminary findings indicated he was caught in a gun duel allegedly involving cultists before police arrival.

Seven suspects from both sides are in custody, with one locally made pistol and two live cartridges recovered. The CP has ordered a full-scale investigation to be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State CID, Panti.

The Command warned troublemakers and their sponsors against breaching public peace, assuring residents of sustained security deployment across affected communities.
