Former Brazil captain Neymar has admitted he could retire at the end of the year as recurring injuries continue to disrupt his career — but insists he still hopes to play at the World Cup.
The 34-year-old forward returned to Santos in January 2025 after leaving Al-Hilal, but his comeback season has been hampered by fitness setbacks, including knee surgery in December that delayed his 2026 campaign.
“I don’t know what will happen from now on… I’m living year to year,” Neymar said, adding that he could decide to retire in December.

Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals has not played for the national team since suffering a serious knee injury against Uruguay in October 2023. He has also not been recalled since Carlo Ancelotti took charge.
Despite uncertainty over his future, Neymar described 2026 as a “huge challenge,” stressing that it is a crucial year for Santos, Brazil, and himself.
