Ekiti Judiciary Goes Digital with Nigeria Case Management System

The Ekiti State Judiciary has adopted the Nigeria Case Management System (NCMS) to modernise court operations and enhance efficiency, transparency and access to justice.

The Chief Judge of Borno State and Chairman of the Judicial Information Technology Policy Committee of Nigeria, Justice Kashim Zanna, disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti during a stakeholders’ roundtable on the enrolment and onboarding of the Ekiti State High Court onto the NCMS legal mail and e-filing platform.

Justice Zanna explained that the NCMS, an initiative of the National Judicial Council (NJC), is designed to automate court processes, allowing judges and lawyers to file cases, review evidence and perform judicial functions remotely.

He said Nigeria’s largely paper-based judicial system has become outdated and can no longer meet public expectations for timely and effective justice delivery.

According to him, Ekiti State has already acquired the necessary hardware and completed training for judges and court staff, with strong stakeholder enthusiasm recorded for the reform.

Zanna urged judges to embrace the transition despite initial challenges, noting that digital processes would improve productivity, health and public confidence in the judiciary. He also advised lawyers to upskill and invest in basic technology, describing digital legal practice as irreversible.

In his remarks, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, said the judiciary had established a data centre, installed local area networks and conducted extensive ICT training for judges and personnel.

He noted that the NCMS would improve case tracking, document management, automated alerts and judicial analytics, helping to reduce delays and curb corruption.

The Ekiti State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata (SAN), described the NCMS as a key national reform that aligns with the NJC’s constitutional mandate to ensure efficient and accountable justice administration across the country.
