The prosscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East, effective February 9, 2026.
In a statement issued on Sunday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful said the directive came directly from the group’s detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. He stressed that the order leaves no justification for anyone to stay at home on Mondays.
According to IPOB, markets, schools, offices, transport services and all economic activities are to resume fully and normally. The group warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce sit-at-home going forward would be acting against Kanu’s explicit instructions.

The sit-at-home protest was introduced in August 2021 following Kanu’s rendition to Nigeria and subsequent incarceration, and had led to weekly shutdowns across the region.
IPOB also cautioned against intimidation of residents or traders and called on people across the South-East to return to work and send their children to school without fear, declaring that “the era of Monday sit-at-home is over.”
