ASUP issues 15-day ultimatum to FG over contentious document

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Ekiti, Osun and Kwara axis  has issued a  15-day ultimatum, in agreement with the national body of the union to ensure the federal government withold the implementation of the new terms of service issued to academic staff in Nigeria polytechnics.

They made this known during a press conference today after its congress held at the federal polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The Ultimatum is for the Federal government to suspend provisions contained in a Contentious Document title Scheme of service for polytechnics or face diverse forms of Industrial actions.

According to the leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Osun, Ekiti and Kwara axis, after extensive deliberations on the content of the controversial document, they have aligned with the national body of the union which had earlier issued a fifteen days ultimatum to the federal government to suspend the implementation of the contentious document.

The union also condemned discrimination against holders of Higher National Diploma certificates against holders of degrees from universities.

According to them, the approval of the document by the office of the head of service of the federation while negating the contributions of other stakeholders is a violation of extant terms of service of polytechnic academic staff.
